Amsterdam

Of all the European cities that I have visited, Amsterdam is my favourite. Although smaller than London, it beats it by its cosmopolitan atmosphere, many fantastic restaurants (the best Italian in which I have ever eaten is close to Dam Square, likewise the best chinese "The Golden Chopsticks"). This is a place that has more ambience and atmosphere crammed into its relatively small area than Greater London. This is the place in Europe, and I long to go back there!!!.

wpe32.jpg (15855 bytes)Policemen crossing the amazing bridge at Leidesplein. Despite it being covered in graffiti; this is a remarkable bridge. I think it is art deco copying the style of the indigenous Mexicans. I love that bridge.

wpe5.jpg (20952 bytes)A Kurdish political demonstration in the Square at Leidesplien.

Not a lot was said at this demonstration, other than music, dancing and colour. This photo observes the observers - attentive and listening.

wpe8.jpg (16752 bytes)As you may have guessed, Leidesplein is one of my favourite parts of Amsterdam, a lot goes on there. Here is some detail of  the bridge that crosses the canal.

wpe5.jpg (18870 bytes) Bicycles are in integral part of Amsterdam. I was lying in wait for a cyclist to come by in this shot, I did not have to wait very long!.

wpe9.jpg (19870 bytes)Centraal Station. Now I will let you in on a little secret. I bought a book by Kodak; I forgot the name of the title but the title was something like "How to take good photographs", a nifty little book. I doubt if it is in publication at the moment. One of the points that it made was bad weather; pointing out that one can take the most spectacular photographs when there is bad weather. The sky over Centraal Station was bad weather, and I thought that would make a good bad weather photo. I am pleased with this as the bad weather brought the station into high relief. I have found that bad weather photographic have some dramatic results.

Hot news, here! Even better - pay the Kodak website a visit; you will find all the information you need to take good photographs as well as digitally enhancing them.

wpeA.jpg (20270 bytes)Bicycles and canals and Amsterdam. An easy photograph to take. The bicycle chained to a bridge, it was there, I had my camera and I took the photo. Keep your camera handy all the time, as good photos are waiting to be taken!.

wpe3C.jpg (22444 bytes)Trams in Amsterdam are as long as trains. One can stand more chance of being run over by one of these babies than a car...as opposed to the loud honk of car, you get the sweet tinkle of a bell that you do not pay much mind to, until the tram is touching your feet. Cyclists also have this facility. There is a dearth of cars in Amsterdam, that's what makes it a great and human city. I like this photo because of the streak of yellow that went across my viewfinder. Note the tram stop.

wpe5.jpg (6995 bytes)Watch out for contrast!

This photo was taken under the tunnel that goes under the Rijksmuseum. I thought great!!!. When I got the pictures back from the Chemist, I could not believe that I got this shot the way that I wanted. I should add that this has not been digitally enhanced. Did not need to!.
