These sites are specifically selected because I find them of personal interest. The Victoria and Albert Museum My favourite museum. Great source material can be had from here; the Canon Gallery should be of particular interest. It's also a great web site.
The Horniman Museum. A great museum with superb exhibits from all of the world which include a Navajo Sand Painting. There is a great deal to see and you can see it one day and feel quite satisfied and want to come again. Furthermore, the kids will love it. The Horniman Gardens are quite nice in all seasons; it is a venue for music, firework displays and international cultural events. A lovely and friendly museum with a fantastic art nouveau frontage. Furthermore, entrance is free. Not to be missed, put it on your touring itinerary!. (Nearest train station is Forest Hill - trains run direct from Charing Cross, or a 185 bus from Victoria).
"Great Ways to Enjoy the Countryside in the South East" If you visit the South East of England and like walking in the countryside. This site is a must. It is very informative and stimulating. The walks are superb but grueling. Great photography can be had on these walks.
The Ordinance Survey Mapping Agency Touring around the UK?. Like the outdoor life?. This site is a good starting point. You can order maps from here as well as getting free downloads.
The Knowhere Guide to Britain. Visiting Britain?. Fed up with the usual tour guides?. Why not take a really really offbeat look. It's a bit on the grim side, but extremely funny. The contributions are made by anyone who knows the areas in which they have an interest. A site for the morbidly curious!.
The BBC "Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation". Completely brilliant!. It informs, educates and entertains. This is our shop window on the world. A great web site. Unfortunately, because of copyright problems The BBC cannot offer the full service. In spite of this it does work. To access the radio, just click on the "Listen" icon (it takes a few seconds to download, so please be patient. Click here to go to World Service, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4. Excess Baggage BBC Radio 4's Travel Programme. Some very good travel articles and useful information here. The programme, itself, is brilliant, well worth tuning into.
The British Film Institute. A great resource centre for the movie buff. The National Film Theatre that is attached to the institute always shows a good film. It happens to be my favourite cinema.
The Royal Festival Hall and the Hayward Gallery. This is also on the South Bank. The Royal Festival Hall is an absolute treasure of a building with superb post-war design values, well-worth a visit in itself. These also comes with a great go-ahead web site (uses Flash), very informative and very entertaining. I must say that this web site is the best I have seen on the web, so far.

The London Transport Website An informative and practical public transport guide to London London's Transport Museum Not only do you have an informative guide, but an interesting and stimulating history of London's Transport. Anoraks (like myself) will not be disappointed. The Rochester Sweeps Festival, this occurs every May Day Bank Holiday. It is a wonderful spectacle, where many folk musicians and dancers converge to produce something quite magical. The dances occur in the street at any time. London has nothing to offer by comparison apart from hyping itself with a few Morris Dancers around this time, and it can be very tacky. If you are in the UK in the first weekend of May; give London a miss and head down to Rochester, you will not be disappointed, you'll get the real thing here rather than the trashy tourist thing that is laid on in London. Rochester is a nice place to visit any time. You can find some background history on this site "Rochester, Kent", geared towards the tourist. You will find a much better site at Rochester-upon-Medway Rochester Castle A castle that was built during Norman times. The cathedral is also worth a visit, has a nice friendly tea room where you can have tea in its well maintained garden; this also includes a herb garden that was part of a monastery that existed a few hundred years ago. The herbs give off some pleasant aromas in the summer time.
The British Library - An informative web site that gives you information on the written word throughout the centuries.
The British Museum - An amazing collection of artefacts from all over the world and from different epochs. Well worth a visit for source material and just mooching around.
The Backpackers Ultimate Guide - A big comprehensive and informative site, gives you a free e-mail account.
Hollywood Boulevard If there is a world famous street, this has to be it. This informative site is dedicated to this world famous street.
Underground History This site is brilliant; much hard work, research and enthusiasm has gone into making this site. The writing is clear and informative. It kept me up half the night exploring the subterranean treasures that lie beneath London The Hubble Space Telescope Web Site Tired of the mundane, pay this website a visit; it takes you to the far corners of the universe.
The Ghost Town Gallery. A site that explores many deserted places in the United States. Some beautiful photographs to boot!. To get a good sense of their atmosphere check out the film Yellow Sky (1948).
