Paris / France Time was that the some of us used to take dips into France by having the occasional daytrip. They were sober times, indeed!. It needed really adventurous people to go beyond Calais and Boulogne. Now, greed over-rides the fear of French food and driving on the wrong side of the road; cheap booze and fags are on sale; and quite a few of us are going there in our droves; clearing the supermarkets of alcoholic beverages along with buying the odd Camembert and baguette to show that we are not completely crass!!!. France is a great country. The French are great people, once you can accept the fact that they are the most superior beings on this planet, for that matter east of Andromeda. Humility, as a foreigner, in France is de-rigeur. With this attitude, you'll have a great holiday in France and get on with French people. For that matter, anywhere. The best way to travel to France is by boat. I have travelled in tunnels, no fun. No sense of frontier. On a good day, when the boat is between both channels, you can see both the English and French coastlines. There is also something really comforting about travelling on a boat, the comfort is better than on a train or in your car - you can really chilly out and relax. You have a sense of wide open space and the sea. Quite therapeutic, a good way to start your holiday; you know that you are leaving your troubles behind. You don't get that in a tunnel. Now, for the photos:
Great building. Very modern, very friendly. Loads of light.
