Any comments, suggestions and corresppondence welcomed e-mail me on glentour@freeuk.uk

Spain is a very photogenic country, it has landscape, buildings, people and atmosphere. All the subject matter that a photographer needs.

             wpe5.jpg (9136 bytes)

La Mezquita in Cordoba - it is the largest mosque outside Mecca. A great feat of architecture, the Moors combined existing styles as well as the ruins of old Roman buildings to build this fantastic creation. It has to rank as a wonder of the world. The integrity of the building, however, was somewhat ruined by the building of a church inside it. Having said that it is a great building to photograph because of the shafts of light that come in through the ceiling.

wpe7.jpg (21607 bytes)La Sagrada Familia (Barcelona)

Perhaps the most famous modern cathedral, designed by Gaudi but still under construction. I am very lucky that it was, otherwise I would not have got these very dramatic shafts of light. I think that there is something very beautiful about a building  being still under construction, it seems to have a life of its own, it is as if it is still growing. The most wonderful thing about this building is how it imitates nature combined with eastern as well as western influences.

wpe8.jpg (18797 bytes)A street scene in Malaga.

Again I use light as the sculptor in this photograph. Note, however, the weatherworn buildings, this gives the photograph atmosphere. Also note the light reflected on the road from the windows.

wpe4.jpg (17899 bytes)La Semana Santa

Holy Week in Granada. Camera in hand, it was time to take photographs of people. Although there is something quite good about the architecture, it does not say much unless you put some life into the photograph. Here, I took this photo of two penitents on their way home from the procession. It must be said that the processions in Granada are quite colourful.

wpe4.jpg (16381 bytes)La Semana Santa in Seville Although this festival can be quite colourful, it is nevertheless a very serious occasion. I do not think the chap on the right was very happy about me snapping away. Still, I would not have got such an interesting photograph!!!.

wpe6.jpg (11000 bytes)Granada. A night time procession, taking photos at night is not easy, one has to rely on flash. The float behind the dazzled policeman was quite spectacular; I did not realise that the policeman was there until I got the film developed. It would have been a disappointing photograph otherwise.

wpe5.jpg (22445 bytes)The Big Shoe Shop in Madrid

A good photo,  plenty of people, lots of activity. Madrid is like this.

wpe7.jpg (19849 bytes)tEl Prado Madrid

after a heavy tour around The Prado, and looking forward to a fairly cool  night in Madrid. I got my friend to take this photo. The woman in the phonebooth is not real, but stick on, one can dream can't one!.

wpe8.jpg (16479 bytes)A cruciform composition of political posters. Note the raindrops on the top left hand corner of the camera lens - I left them there, they add an ambience.

wpe5.jpg (16289 bytes)A Shop that Sells Time -

Sierpes, Sevilla. A neat little photo, a photogenic clockshop - I wonder if it is still there, it speaks for itself.

wpe7.jpg (20338 bytes)Bar Del Pi, Barcelona

A nice little bar with tapas, and the famous Catalunyan snack of crushed tomatoes and olive oil on bread. I took this photo because of the shadows on the building.

wpe8.jpg (10558 bytes)Sculptures on the roof of the Joan Miro Museum, Barcelona.

I like Joan Miro. It was great to see his work in three dimensions, not only that,  I suspect that he had a sense of humour which   is not apparent in his paintings.

wpe4.jpg (9435 bytes)Some exhibits on show in the Joan Miro Museum

wpe8.jpg (12813 bytes)Madrid - Balconies, this was taken on a rainy day from my hotel room; I thought that the light was good enough to take this photograph.  Note the contrast in the lower half of the picture.

wpe9.jpg (14545 bytes)Metro Station in Madrid - The Spanish Language has around 1500 arabic words, I took this photo not only because of the stairs down to the metro, but also the apparent arabic script on the left of the photo.

wpeA.jpg (11387 bytes)People getting on board a metro train in Madrid

wpe31.jpg (16135 bytes)A wall with graffiti in Cordoba.

wpe5.jpg (26496 bytes)A kiosk in Cadiz

wpeA.jpg (15412 bytes)Cadiz, a fountain. Fountains are great to photograph, providing you get the light right. I like this photo, it's like Champagne for the eyes!.

wpeB.jpg (17793 bytes)A street in Cadiz.

Cadiz has loads of atmosphere. When I got there, I had visions of pirates, stories of the Spanish main, buccaneers etc. This is because Cadiz was a major port at the time of the Spanish Main. My understanding is that the Spanish Main is in the Caribbean; but personally this is where it is.

wpe5.jpg (16118 bytes)La Sagrada Familia,

interior. Unfinished or ruined buildings give are great places to obtain great light effects, shades and contrast. When the roof goes on this building, there will not be this lighting effect any longer. Having said that, churches are great places to take photographs; it seems that the architects treat light as being fundamental to their design.

wpeB.jpg (15012 bytes)A butcher's stall in a market in Barcelona

wpe5.jpg (11699 bytes)The interior of La Mezquita in Cordoba

wpe1.jpg (14772 bytes)The Front of Seville Railway Station; this imitate the Moorish design perfectly

A photograph of the float in Seville. Not bad, I thought.

wpe3.jpg (21674 bytes)La Giralda. A massive Medieval Moorish Tower in Seville. The Moors have to be the greatest Architects and designers of their time!.

A fountain in Madrid

Details of tiles in the Alhambra, Granada

A picture of a very formidable looking high-rise building; we called it the Dracula Offices Madrid, quite remarkable, nevertheless.

An evening streetscene in Cordoba. A sunny evening is a great time to photographs. You can get a lot of contrast.

wpe1.jpg (15686 bytes)A square in Cordoba. What impressed me about this square was that it was built as a complete building with a square in the middle. The photo was taken at midday, so that the is on centre to the square.
